Custody & Adoption Evaluators
Jessica Maldonado, LMSW, BCE# 1388
Jessica received her Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas in 2010 with a concentration in services to children and families. She became a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensed by the Texas State Board of Social Workers Examiners in April 2011. Jessica has experience in working with diverse populations including children and adolescents, adults and geriatrics. However, her primary focus has been children and adolescents and their families. Jessica is experienced in counseling services and addressing mental health needs across diverse populations, connecting families to outside agencies for resources, McKinney-Vento program, foster care, and establishing a clothing closet for a community. She also has experience in working in a variety of different settings including Child Protective Services, schools, skilled nursing facilities and hospitals.
Jessica is on the Bexar County Evaluators List maintained by the Bexar County Domestic Relations Office. She is now accepting referals for adoption evaluations nd contested custody evaluations in divorces and well as custody modifications under the supervision of Cheryl L. Shulter, LPC-S (BCE# 984).
Ana Perez, LMSW, BCE# 1306
Ana Perez is a native of San Antonio and a graduate of Taft High School. She went on to earn an Associate of Applied Science in American Sign Language: Deaf Support Specialist from San Antonio College, and then Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Texas State University. Ms. Perez is active in a variety of organizations and causes, including holding leadership or board positions in some. Ms. Perez is on the board of Fiesta Youth, which provides weekly support for LGBTQ youth. She is the political chair on the steering committee of Human Rights Campaign San Antonio and on the Council of Political Education for the Texas State Employees Union, as well as serving as a general member of the National Organization of Women, PFLAG, Stonewall Democrats, and the American Widow Project.
Ms. Perez was a caseworker for the Department of Family and Protective Services for seven years. Her specialization was working with deaf and hard of hearing clients, LGBTQ foster youth, as well as sex abuse and sex trafficking victims. She also has years of experience working with persons with a variety of mental health concerns, and has worked in a variety of clinical settings in not-for-profit agencies and hospitals.
In her free time, Ms. Perez is an animal and environmental activist and parent to two children and several fur children.
Ms. Perez is available to provide contested custody evaluations for divorces and custody modifications as well as social studies for adoption through Alamo Heights Counseling, Inc. under the supervision of Cheryl L. Shulter, (BCE# 984).
Cheryl L. Shulter, LPC-S, BCE# 984
Cheryl received her Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in December 2006. She began conducting custody evaluations (then called social studies) in February 2010. Since that time, she has worked with over 100 families through the Bexar County Court system. She has completed a total of seventy-four evaluations (fifty-six contested custody evaluations, four contested custody updates, and fourteen adoption evaluations).
In addition to providing custody evaluations, Cheryl is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. She provides parent facilitiation in addition to individual therapy in her office setting at Alamo Heights Counseling, Inc. where she serves as Clinical Director.
Cheryl remains on the Bexar County Evaluators List maintained by the Bexar County Domestic Relations Office and is available to conduct custody and adoption evaluations on a limited basis outside regular clinical hours, although her primary focus is in training, mentoring, and supervising new evaluators.
